Safranbolu, known as the "Living Museum City", was included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO at the end of 1994 due to its success in preserving its historical and cultural heritage within its environmental texture. The aesthetic use of stone, the magnificence of woodwork, ceiling and wall decorations, stair railings and even the splendor of door knockers attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. In addition to its historical and cultural heritage, Safranbolu Turkish delight, which dates back to the Ottoman Empire and continues to be made with high quality and traditional methods, has also increased its recognition and demand. Turkish delight has been widespread in Anatolia since the 15th century and throughout the Ottoman Empire after the 17th century. In Ottoman Turkish, it means "Rahat-ul Hulküm" (Relieving the Throat), which comes from Arabic. In the 18th century, it became known as Turkish Delight in Europe through an English traveler. Rahat-ul hulküm became known as "LATI LOKUM" or "RELAX LOKUM" over time. Later on, it was only called "Lokum".
