Technical Distinctive Features of Antep Pistachio:

 

Belonging to the culture of the Gaziantep region, Pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) Rootstocks are known as Long, Red, Halabi, Siirt and Ohadi.

Production Technique:

Pistachio requires cooling under 7.2 °C between 600-1050 hours, depending on the variety. When the temperature is not low enough, the buds cannot out properly and as many. It requires the summer months to be hot, dry and long, and a total heat of 3200-4200 days depending on the variety. As soil structure, pistachio grows in deep sandy loamy texture and partially lime-containing soils. In studies carried out in regions with intensive cultivation, where the soil structure is 85% loamy, salt-free; pH is between 8.1-8.7; organic matter is between 1.4-2.5% in the top soil; soil depth is between 8-10 cm: it is stated that,  the amount of N, P, Fe, Zn and Mn are found in plant nutrients, is less than the amount to be used or such little amount that cannot be used by the plant. Annual water consumption is between 750 mm-800 mm. It does not like excessive humidity.

 

Fertilization: In -1.4 oC, flowers are damaged by the low temperature during flowering. If the weather conditions of the regions to be grown are at the desired intensity, 1 male tree is required for 8 to 10 trees in the garden.

Inspection:

In accordance with Article 20 of the Decree Law No. 555, the inspections of the Antep Pistachio geographical indication for compliance with the technical specifications of the production of the same product of others will be carried out in two stages; Fruit and Tree inspections, with the coordination of the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce.

 

  1.  Tree Inspection: A supervisory committee is formed from the following organizations, with 2 to 5 people in 4 or 6 monthly periods in the province it belongs to, and the relevant report is prepared as a result of the audit.

         Institutions that will participate in the tree inspection:

           - Chamber of Commerce and/or Industry (expert staff)

           - Provincial Directorate of Agriculture (official on the subject)

           - Pistachio Research (Employee)

           - Commodity Exchange (Employee)

           - South East Agricultural Sales Cooperative (Employee)
